The town of Minden is a quiet town in the heart of the Carson Valley.  The town was formed from the vision of D.H. Dangberg back in 1905, and actively works to maintain a vision of safe and prosperous community for all residents, businesses and visitors.  Minden hosts several annual events such as craft fairs, concerts, farmers markets, car shows and fundraisers.  A great place to purchase real estate giving you way to the worlds most popular recreation area of Lake Tahoe which is only 30 minutes drive.

Located in Douglas County, Minden offers a rural feel where most residents own their own homes. From parks and activities, festivals, and a small downtown, Minden is a beautiful place to call home. Nestled just south of Carson City at the intersection of Highway 395 and 88, Minden has several services and amenities such as movie theaters, the Carson Tahoe Minden Medical Center, the Carson Valley Casino, shopping centers, restaurants, markets and more.

Minden History and the Siren

Founded originally in 1906, Minden has been growing steadily but slowly every year. It's unique because it has a "sundown Siren at 6 PM almost every evening since 1917 signifying that the members of the wash to Indian tribe were required to leave town by 6:30 PM or face jail time or a fine. Even though this is not why it signals every evening, Minden continues to carry on the tradition. In 2021, the state of Nevada passed a law that prohibits communities from sounding signals associated with a past law but Minden claims that the law does not apply to them. Today, it sounds in a commemoration of first responders.

What Locals Say About Minden

"Minden is my quant little town just outside of the capital of Nevada. The view of the snow capped sierras can be see from all directions. The landscapes and farmlands are incredible. It is just big enough that families have opportunities in all aspects, but still small enough to feel a personal connection with those you meet. Everyone is kind, caring, and the community truly sticks together. I wouldn’t want to change my little hometown." - Niche.com
