North Upper Truckee is widely considered by locals to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in South Lake Tahoe. Many homes are inhabited by permanent residents, in contrast to the high percentage of vacation homes and vacation rentals in many other neighborhoods in the area. Many South Lake Tahoe residents choose to live in North Upper Truckee because of its proximity to their favorite schools in the area.
After a devastating fire in 2007, many homes were lost and have since been rebuilt. Because of this, you will find a blend of some older homes that have been in the area for decades with others that have been newly built and are surrounded by less mature trees.
North Upper Truckee is just a few minutes from what locals call the "Y," which is the bustling shopping and dining area located at the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 89. Whether it's running to the supermarket or looking for somewhere to eat out, you will find everything you need just outside the neighborhood.
Of course North Upper Truckee residents enjoy all the outdoor recreation in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, including Emerald Bay State Park. What many people call "Lake Tahoe's Crown Jewel," Emerald Bay is unbelievably beautiful and the perfect place to enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or water sports.
There are also plenty of seasonal events to keep your social calendar full in South Lake Tahoe, like The Renaissance Festival, The Great Gatsby Festival, The Kokanee Salmon Festival, and Oktoberfest.
There are quite a few local favorites just a few minutes away when you are looking for something to eat. Try Bob Dog Pizza, a classic pizza joint with all your favorite appetizers and drink to pair with their satisfying pies. Getaway Cafe is another favorite, serving American and Mexican dishes in a rustic cabin setting, perfect for breakfast or lunch before a day exploring beautiful South Lake Tahoe.
Public schools serving North Upper Truckee students are considered to be some of the best in the area, one of the reasons so many permanent residents of South Lake Tahoe choose this neighborhood. They are a part of Tahoe Truckee Unified School District.
North Upper Truckee is home to beautiful single family homes on spacious properties. Some of the largest mountain lots available in South Lake Tahoe are located in this desirable neighborhood. Due to the rebuilding that has taken place after the fire in 2007, there are a blend of older and newer homes in the neighborhood.
